Sabugal ((:sɐβuˈɣaɫ)) is a city and a municipality in the District of Guarda in Portugal. The municipality population in 2011 was 12,544,〔(Instituto Nacional de Estatística )〕 in an area of 822.70 km².〔(Direção-Geral do Território )〕 The city proper has a population of about 3,000. There are castles in Sabugal and Sortelha. The present Mayor is Manuel Rito Alves, elected by the Social Democratic Party. The municipal holiday is the Monday after Octave of Easter.
